I recently took a trip to North for a nice maple leaf sightseeing tour in Ontario, Canada.
The view was certainly spectacular, it made me appreciate just how beautiful this country actually is, for different seasons and cities. On my last day of the day, I woke up as usual at 5am and did my morning workout routine, while I was riding the stationary bike, I saw the sign on the hotel gym wall, I can’t remember the exact words but it goes something like “if you feel any sign of discomfort, stop the exercise immediately and seek for a doctor” I almost fell off my bike. “Any sign of discomfort, STOP!!!” I know the hotel manager has a good intention, or simply want to prevent possible lawsuit. But this is exactly the mentally of our generation nowadays. We don’t want any discomfort, we don’t want to feel bad in any form, physical or emotional. Schools and teachers stop rating kids, they shouldn’t use red ink because that’s bad for their self-esteem, there shouldn’t be winners because that imply others are losers, there shouldn’t be metals because everyone is equal and great and everyone deserves a participation award. Jesus, are we back in Soviet Union or China again? Hasn’t the communism been tested and failed enough times? In order to burn some calories, your heart rate needs to go up to certain beats that will cause you to feel uncomfortable, needless to say, you train your cardiovascular muscles and eventually become stronger and healthier In order to build muscle, you need to lift weights that are heavy enough to break down your muscle fiber, so they can grow bigger and stronger to protect your bones. Needless to say, you will feel uncomfortable. In order to become a successful sales, you need to get used to rejections, countless rejections to become good at influence people. Needless to say, you’re not gong to feel so comfortable. And of course, in order to trade well, you must take small losses, in fact, losing is part of the game, no loss, no risk, no gain. Maybe I’ve become too old to get in touch with the new generations, but this thinking of entitlement and liberal & socialism thinking just getting most disgusting for me every day. The world is not all pretty and nice, life is a competition, and we get to where we are by dominated and won over other species, we kill and eat them every day. In fact, the very fact that you’re here and reading this means that you were the winner out of the competition of the sperms. You've beaten every other sperms to reach that egg, congratulation. Embrace the discomfort, that’s how you grow in this life.

10/16/2017 0 Comments Prepare before the stormThere are more and more hurricanes in U. S nowadays, although I haven’t experienced any hurricanes being in Canada and I’m certainly very thankful for it, I remember clearly how we always had many typhoons back when I was still in Taiwan.
Typhoons came pretty much every year, and the worse of all is that we were living in the rural area without proper irrigation system, so every time after typhoon came, there were always floods everywhere. We even had to take the boat out for food on some occasions…. I certainly understand the inconvenience of these kinds of events. So what can we do? The best thing is to move, of course, move out of the hurricane and typhoon areas. But it’s not really feasible for everyone, so the next best thing you can do is to prepare. Prepare for the storm, prepare for the unforeseen, prepare! Preparation does not mean you will not have losses from this natural disaster, because frankly speaking, it’s beyond your control. But if you sit through the storm without any preparation, or start acting while the storm is already here, you’re dead in the water. And it’s exactly the same theory behind trading (and why so many traders got killed in the market every day) Because when times are quite such as today (usual Monday), it’s the best time for you to prepare - to read, to research, to analyze, to back testing…etc And to prepare when the trading opportunities show up. Of course, even with all the preparation and plans, you will still encounter losses all the time, but you have been prepared, you have been testing, practicing, you know the drills… Therefore, you have higher chance to win, to minimize the risks and your losses, to understand your psychologies…etc Yet, 90% of the trades start trading when the storms are already here, when they’re completely wet and soaked in the water, then they realized how important it is to have a life jacket, to prepare, to have a stop loss, to not risk too much in this trade… But it’s all too late, soon the water gets higher and eventually they are drowned. Do you want to be the ones who survived through the storms? Do you want to be the ones who got the only life jacket on the sea? Do you want to be the ones who sell their stored gas or foods for higher price? (and yes, supply and demand will determine the price, there is nothing unethical about it) If you want to be the one who not only survive but also profit, then you better be prepared. Remember in every crisis, most people lose fortunes while some make fortunes 10/15/2017 0 Comments WeekendWeekend
It used to be very hard to take a break for me. I know, we all need some rest in order to function well as a human being, but it’s such a waste of time because I love productivity, I love working and most importantly, I love to know more about the market, to trade more and eventually to make more money. But it’s essential, not only for your health or well-being, but it’s a vital part of “productivity”. “What? What do you mean?” You may ask. I’m certainly not talking about new age stuff, but the fact is that the big part of your brain activities and habit were built on your subconscious mind! (I’ll talk more about habit in the future posts) Initially we use our conscious mind for all the absorption for your knowledge, all the leanings and doings, but in order for these skills to become part of us, to become your second nature, you need to transition it from logic mind to the subconscious mind. The best example will be driving. When we first learn how to drive, there are hundreds of things to look out for, you look at the 4 mirrors, you look at the stop signs, you look at the traffic light, or wait you forgot to put it to D instead of R...that’s why you hit that poor man! But then, eventually driving becomes second nature for us, not only you can mindlessly drive to your workplace and completely zone out during the traffic, you can even listen to audio books or talk on the phone (not recommended) And how did we achieve that? By driving 24 hours a day and never stop? No, we become like that simply through time, we drive a bit here and there, we pass G2, then wait a whole year as mandatory as to have our G license to become the full driver (in Canada) It’s because time is essence for any knowledge to go from conscious learning to subconscious doing. So there you go, no matter how much you want to understand the market, get proficiency in looking at that chart, or back testing your strategies, you do need to take a break in order to become a real master in these skills. I know you work hard, but always schedule time off from your task and trading, again, it’s part of your productivity. |
