#20 - This is how I look during my times in Asia...

Funny? Alarmist? Paranoid?
No, because coronavirus is real, and it's fatal!
We finally hit +100 cases in Canada - and it's climbing up! (118 cases as of today)
My hometown Taiwan has the first case since Jan, and so far, we have 49 cases as of today!

Taiwan has 2.7 million visitors from China last year and is only 81 miles from mainland China, yet we only have 49 cases. 
Taiwan's 23 million populations, 36,193 square kilometre and density of 649 per square kilometers (1680 per square meters).
Canada has 37 million populations, 9985 million square kilometers, and a density of 4 per square kilometers (11 people per square meters) and welcomed around 700 thousand visitors from China last year.
With less visitors, less densities, and supposedly more resourceful and richer than a small island like Taiwan that is not even allowed to join the WHO, why do the coronavirus cases continue to climb up in Canada? 
So what happened? 
I love Canada, and I think it's a great country, after all, that's why my parents sent me here since high school!
BUT, I really don't think the Government is treating this pandemic serious enough, and that leaves all the hard-working health professionals, and frontline people suffer in risks!
Air Canada halted the flights to China and now Italy.
Some business has asked workers to stay and work from home.
These are all considerable measure, but none of them are from the Government itself!
Instead, both federal and provincial Governments continue to tell the public that the risk remains LOW.
There were no flights ban, nothing in the airport, I got back from Japan, one of the countries that are severely infected (with over 1000 cases and 27 deaths), yet I walked pass the Custom, and the official even asked me why are we wearing masks?
"WHY AREN'T YOU?"
Yes, I know the cultural differences; masks are for "sick people", but everyone can potentially be "sick" with the virus without showing any symptoms!
So if we advise the health professionals to wear masks, how come the front line people such as Customs are not wearing them?
All the flight attends from Air Canada were wearing masks for the 13 hours flight. 
Why? Because AC is a privately own company, while the Custom belongs to the Government!
Why can't the TTC workers be allowed to wear the masks? 
According to the TTC, it's not good for the public perception...
Time to wake up, Canada! 
The public perception and political correctness are not as important as public health and protection.
In Taiwan, if you are infected, you stay in the hospital until you're recovered and tested negative!
In Canada, they send you home for self-isolation!
And how are you going to get home?
Lucky if you drive, but if you don't, unlucky, you take the TTC or the Uber...
And who is going to take care of you? Your family members? How are you going to eat? The delivery guys?
All of these people will be in contact with you and hence increase the risk of infection, and then they will go out and infect more and more...
The B.C patient that was self-isolated ended up infected his whole family...
It's not his fault, we have no training on how to take care of the patient in this case, yet we suppose to know how to take care of a person with coronavirus...
This is how the pandemic starts in Italy, in many European cities now...
And in our closest neighbor USA...
It starts with ignorance, it begins with the mentality that it's only in Asia, somehow it's a Chinese virus, not a Western one...
Finally, for people who keep saying that this is not that serious, just like the flu, your immune system can fight it, etc...
Congratulations! I'm glad you have good health and are relatively young, but not everyone else does!
You can be the carrier and infect others and remain healthy, but that others can be your parents, your grandparents, your love ones! 

• We seriously need to stop flights from certain countries!
• We need a designated area for isolation and care, even for mild patients.
• We need to ban large events.
• We need to provide face masks for not only health professionals but any front line workers.
• We need to shut down schools, now, not later!

And finally, we need to tell the public the truth!
This risk remains LOW..
but it can and has an enormous chance to become HIGH within 24-48 hours!
