4th of July, Independence Day 🙂 First Amendment. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the Freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Second Amendment. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Happy 244th Birthday to the USA! It's incredible to know that this great country is only two hundred years old. In comparison with the Roman Empire's 1000+ years or Ottoman Empire's 600+ years, the United States is indeed a very young country. I'm cheering and looking forward to the greatest to continue! There is a lot of hate toward the U.S.A recently. From racial issues to the history of slaveries, and the hostile wars that it had started in the past! I agree with all the above. However, we need to look at history with a wide lens. All the greatest empires in the past have had slaveries, racial issues, and every empire was built upon wars and invasions. Slavery was never about black people. We've had slavery since the first empire, Akkadian Empire, in 2334 B.C. Does that mean slavery is healthy and good? Of course not. That's why it's so amazing that such a young country like U.S.A could advance from its slavery past and even elected a black president to rule the country for 8 years! If this is not progress, then tell me what it is then!!!! The Founding Fathers were some of the most exceptional people in history, to pack so many pearls of wisdom into this small book of U.S Constitutions. And yet, a lot of attacks toward them recently just because they were all slave owners… They were Founding Fathers, great people but not a saint! No one is perfect! The thing is that the Founding Fathers did not invent the Constitution's ideas. It was inherited from the Britsh Empire, which the Britsh learned from the French enlightenment, which the French discovered from the Italian Renaissance etc. So you see, this is precisely how the history goes. We started wars, conquered each other, and learned from these experiences and became better and better! So is colonization part of it? Absolutely! Does it mean it's good or bad? No, it's nor good or bad, because to study history is never to pick a side in the past, instead, to learn from it! As mentioned in my previous blog #34 - My Japanese Love & Asian Masculinity Japan colonized Taiwan between 1895 - 1945, and my grandparents were Japanized to the point that they couldn't even speak Mandarin. Then, I was born in 1985, 40 years later, after the colonization, so in the current social standard, I must be a victim, right? Far from it! As mentioned, Japan helped to build and develop Taiwan. Even though there were resistances and massacres, especially between the indigenous people and the Japanese army. However, I, as a descendent, not only did not experience this history but purely benefited from the colonization! Why should I, after studying the history of colonization, cannot logically learn the good and bad sides of it, and take the good and better myself? Why do I have to linger in the hatred from the past? A past that I was not even part of it? Of course, one should always be knowledgable of history, but not to live in the historical hatred! You might think this is the logical thing to do, but unfortunately, that was not the case nowadays! We saw the older generation, Chinese parents, teaching their kids to hate the Japanese because of WWII. Once the young Chinese who never been through wars, traveled to Japan and fell in love with the country, the parents got so angry. "You must hate the Japanese because they killed your grandparents!" Why? Why are we trying to install hate from the past, as if we never going to learn and grow from the history? We saw the same thing in Hong Kong in recent years. When Hong Kong citizens reminisced about the Britsh colonization, the Chinese Government tries to install this racial issue, Asian vs. White. The hatred from the past and ignore the fact that the majority of Hong Kong people like British colonization because of the Freedom of speech, press, properties etc. It was never about Whiteness. Why can't we look at the present and judge by the moment? This is the time we're living now, and are we better of or not? When we celebrated Canada Day, there would always be an outcry from the indigenous group to attack the Government and the nation that stole their land and oppressed them for 153 years. 153 years???? Really? Are you saying that an indigenous person who is now born in Canada, is oppressed, as the same oppression that their grandparents from 153 years ago? Well, I don't know about that, but I do know how much benefits you're entitled to have, just because you are an indigenous person. How much does the Canadian Government give to natives? According to a study released this week by Vancouver's Fraser Institute, the federal department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) alone spends $8,578 per year on every First Nations adult and child in the country. Over the past 60 years, INAC has given $215 billion to First Nations.Mar 12, 2016 What challenges did Chinese immigrants face in Canada? They risked their lives to help build Canada's railway in the 1880s. But as soon as the work was done, Canada just wanted them gone. It was the beginning of a difficult history for Chinese immigrants to Canada. They struggled through the head tax, personal attacks and job discrimination. Do I have any Federal benefits nowadays? Hmm...no. And I don't need or want to! You see, it's very easy to get sucked into the emotional story of history. Still, it is ignorant to be oblivious about the reality! Without historical wars, the world is NOT a better place. Without colonization, we are NOT better off. Many people have died innocently because of historical events, so we should always make the best out of our current situation! Listen, I get it! The past is horrible, and there is no way to deny that! I'm not an Africa American, nor an indigenous person. I cannot speak for them, but I can only ask: Isn't your life better off now? Before you jump to answer, you have great samples to compare. If the European settlers never came, what would the indigenous people be? Take a look at the indigenous people in Amazon, Brazil, or Papua new guinea. They are still living life ingeniously, do you think that's a better lifestyle than what you have now? Without clean water, electricity, the internet, modern medicines…etc? For Africans, it's even simpler, just take a trip to go to Africa. I love Africa, it's so beautiful and magnificent, but no, I wouldn't want to live there, nor grow up there, considering there is no clean water, education, electricity, internet, social instability, diseases, HIV, Ebola…etc Do you prefer to be an African American or just African? Again, I'm not saying that African American do no share a brutal history of slavery, but I'm asking you if the European settlers never colonized America, will live better of for you, in comparison to the current African countries, or the indigenous lifestyle in Amazon and Papua new guinea? I don't know about you, but I would prefer the North American lifestyle, the Western civilizations! Does that mean I should be thankful for the European settlers to colonize us? No, it's just mean that I will look at history for what it is, a history! I'm only thankful to be born in the modern era, where I live in clean land, with freshwater, modern inventions, medicines, and great entertainment to make life so exciting and rich! And I intend to make the best out of it, so my next generations can benefit from the "history" that is my current making! I refuse to be brainwashed with hatred from the past, to riot, to loot, to destroy properties, monuments, for what? So that I can get "my land" back to "my people?" What are you going to do when you get your land back? Any contribution to society or the land, you could have done it now! This is our land, our people, our country, and our globe! Stop dividing us with so much hatred from the past, stop making every issue about races, because if skin color is all you care about, then you're the real racist! All Lives Matter! Stop turning the freedom and liberty of capitalism into an anarchist, Marxist socialism. You can just immigrant to China, Russia, Venezuela, or Cuba! All these countries were founded with the exact same ideas you're preaching now. Is Black Lives Matter Marxist? No and Yes.
